Ryan started his racing career at the age of 15, driving a hobby stock for a neighbor. He then moved on to owning his own hobby the following year.
Ryan's third year in racing was when he made the jump to 360 sprints, running shows at Rock Rapids Speedway, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Lake County Speedway, Madison, SD as well as some shows at Husets Speedway in Brandon, SD. That year he earned Rookie of the Year at Lake County and Rookie of the Year with the National Motorsports Racing Association. He did accomplish his first win that rookie year in sprint cars.
His sophomore year in sprints was adventurous. He took on bigger goals and also set out to different tracks. It was a learning experience for him and the entire crew. The third year of sprints was when the learning was done for Ryan and crew. They pulled off eight victories and Sportmen of the Year awards at both Lake County and Husets Speedway.
The fourth season was a little bit of a set back with a chassis change in the middle of the season, and it took the rest of the year to get a handle on it. In year five the 17B team assembled two frames to start out the year. The year was about average, with another chassis switch about a third of the way through the season. The first weekend out with it Ryan brought home two wins, which ended the year on a good note.
The sixth year had a very exciting start, a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and to Baytown, Texas was planned out. Finising just shy of transfer spots both nights was a learning experience again for the team. Going through ten different states in five days brought on a lot of good memories. The rest of the year was a roller coaster ride with only one vicotry and a runner up spot in points at I-90 Speedway. The team took it all as another learning experience.
The 2007 season has started off great with a trip to East Bay Raceway Park in Florida. With about 70 cars present Ryan brought home a heat race win, a transfer to the A Main, and the other nights has successful finishes in the B Main.
The 2008 started with another trip to East Bay Raceway Park in Florida. Ryan brought home a 'Strawberry Dash' win and was satisfied with the over all experience. 2008 is looking like a full year with both a 360 and 410 motor ready to race.
